Guide to Life Coaching
What is N.L.P.
I was introduced to NLP in 2003. I had just set up my coaching practice and was still working and responsible for the professional development of a large number of staff. I had heard about NLP and wanted to learn more about it.
That was the start of a fascinating journey, which continues to this day. I found a course and commenced my Practitioner training. I followed this with NLP in Business, NLP in coaching and eventually my Masters training. Each programme has provided invaluable information, skills, practical experience and confidence.
I continue to use NLP in my personal and professional life, in my writing, communication and coaching.
Neuro linguistic programming (NLP) provides the tools and techniques to help you at home and at work to:
Think positively
Motivate yourself and others
Communicate effectively
Create actions and make a difference
NLP was developed in the 1970s by a group of psychologists. Richard Bandler (psychologist, John Grinder (linguist) and Gregory Bateson (anthropologist).
NLP is a study of behaviour-how and why people do things. Using NLP offers us techniques to change our lives. With NLP we can choose our mental, emotional and physical states at any time and change our behaviour and communication to be more effective and bring us more of what we want in life.
Linguistic relates to language. How we use language and how it affects us
Neuro stands for our neurology – the mind and how we think
Programming – means the mental programmes we run. The internal thoughts and patters of behaviour that help us evaluate situations, solve problems and make decisions.
NLP helps us understand why we do what we do and has been described as the difference that makes the difference in communication.
By understanding how we create and maintain our inner thoughts and feelings, which is the way we experience the world we live in, we can start the process of changing our own world for the better.
